Betsey Johnson is truly the Unsinkable Molly Brown of the fashion industry! The iconic Johnson hosted an evening, full of fun, flare and cocktails to launch her new Spring/Summer 2014 swimwear collection during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: SWIM in Miami on July 20, 2013 on the whimsical rooftop of The Betsy Hotel. A local Miami DJ lit up the night with scintillating tunes while guests were treated to an exclusive first look at Betsey Johnson’s new collection. The evening also celebrated the announcement of Betsey’s new partnership.

Malibu Dream Girl, Inc. Announces Company Makeover Starting with a Name Change

May 11, 2012 (Los Angeles, CA) — After three decades in business, Malibu Dream Girl, Inc. will change its name to Malibu Design Group, effective June 1, 2012. This change is part of a larger rebranding effort to emphasize the company’s commitment to expanding its diverse portfolio of brands and technological developments.

The announcement of the name change was made by company president Henry Fan. “As we step into the next decade, we look forward to a new progressive vision, which includes more growth like our recent acquisitions of Dotti Cover-ups and the swimwear license for Maidenform, as well as in the technology arena.”

In addition, the company established new headquarters in Los Angeles with an expanded team of designers and a new showroom in New York, featuring state-of-the-art technology and brand-specific spaces. Conference rooms are now equipped with high-definition videoconferencing capabilities, allowing worldwide collaboration.

In line with this progressive vision, Malibu Design Group is launching sustainable and environmentally-friendly initiatives such as cloud-type computing which allows anytime-anywhere communication through mobile tablet devices. The Malibu Design Group sales team is going paperless; they will now use tablet computers to show lines and access files from anywhere. This technology will also be incorporated into a newly designed booth at this year’s Miami SwimShow with an interactive modern shopping experience.

Malibu Dream Girl, Inc. Announces Acquisition of Dotti

May 20, 2011 (Commerce, CA) — Malibu Dream Girl® announced today the acquisition of privately-held Dotti®, the premier cover-up brand in the swimwear industry. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Dotti was founded in 1968 by Dotti Schwartz. She originally made blouses under the Dotti label. Many of her buyers asked if she could make her blouses into tunics as they needed “cover-ups” for their swim departments, and Dotti beach cover-ups were launched. Dotti was privately owned through 1996. The company has changed ownership several times, from the hands of Kellwood Co. in 1997 to A.H. Schreiber Co. in 2005. Dotti cover-ups are currently sold to department and better specialty stores throughout the USA and Mexico.
