May 20, 2011 (Commerce, CA) — Malibu Dream Girl® announced today the acquisition of privately-held Dotti®, the premier cover-up brand in the swimwear industry. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Dotti was founded in 1968 by Dotti Schwartz. She originally made blouses under the Dotti label. Many of her buyers asked if she could make her blouses into tunics as they needed “cover-ups” for their swim departments, and Dotti beach cover-ups were launched. Dotti was privately owned through 1996. The company has changed ownership several times, from the hands of Kellwood Co. in 1997 to A.H. Schreiber Co. in 2005. Dotti cover-ups are currently sold to department and better specialty stores throughout the USA and Mexico.
